One Room Challenge – Fall 2017

The Spring of 2017 was a crazy one for our little family! My husband Steven is an orthopedic surgeon and has spent the last eight years practicing in my small hometown of Wilkesboro, North Carolina. We love small town life and he loved his practice, his staff and our local hospital. He had a booming practice and we thought we would never leave but life always throws you curve balls when you least expect it! Our little (but very high quality and successful ) small town hospital was being purchased by a much larger academic institution and at the exact same time Steven was being recruited by another hospital system to build an orthopedic practice like he had here. With God’s perfect timing and plan, we decided it was a great time to move on to a new adventure! The best part was that the new hospital was only 40 or so minutes up the mountain in the awesome community of Boone and Blowing Rock. We had lived in Boone before and always loved it- its a great place to visit if you are ever in western NC. Its home to Appalachian State, a thriving arts community, the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and a super hip resturant/shopping/brewery scene!

The best part was because it is so close we haven’t had to move right away and are taking things slow. Our house is on the market…so let me know if you would like buy it! Steven is enjoying his commute and we are loving getting to spend our weekends in the mountains- especially this time of year!

On to the fun part…. because Steven has to be “local” when he is on call we “had” to get a cute little condo in the town of Blowing Rock. We are now the proud owners of 2 bedroom condo in the resort of Chetola (check it out here) – we love it because it is close to all the action at the resort like the restaurant, lake, and all the hiking trails in Moses Cone Park. The even better part is we can walk right into downtown Blowing Rock. It feels like being on vacay all the time! We walk the dog to coffee and hot chocolate in the mornings and can stroll to dinner and ice cream in the evening! Good thing all the walking and hiking helps to counter all the calories!

While we love the location of the condo the decor certainly left plenty to be desired. Its a small space so everything needs to be thoughtfully planned out to make it all work together! Like all the mountain condos we looked at while shopping, the condo lacked any real style. Lots of oak, formica counters, small stained trim, boring bathrooms and fixtures I would like to forget.

For this installment of the One Room Challenge, we are going to tackle the living and dining spaces… and maybe even give ya a sneak of the kitchen if I can pull it off!

Today enjoy the before and next week we will discuss the design plan to take this tiny space from basic mountain condo to a funky, modern getaway! Brace yourself y’all……

XOXO
